Residence permit in Turkey: what you need to know and how to apply?
Over the past few years, moving to Turkey (immigration) has become much easier. What do you need to know when planning to move to this country for permanent residence and what is necessary for this? Let's figure it out together.
Options for obtaining a residence permit under Turkish law
The grounds for obtaining a residence permit in this state are:
- Study at a local university or study Turkish language courses in Turkey. Important: A residence permit of this type is valid only for the duration of your studies and does not apply to relatives!
- Family residence permit. As the name suggests, it is issued upon marriage to a Turkish citizen. For the first time, such a residence permit is issued for 24 months. The official (confirmed) income of a person receiving a temporary residence permit must be no less than the minimum wage in the country. A family permanent residence permit does not necessarily require you to marry a citizen; it is possible to obtain a residence permit upon reunification with a relative who already has a permanent residence permit or citizenship. After 2 years, the residence permit will have to be renewed, and after another year, if the marriage is not recognized as fictitious, you will be able to apply for citizenship. In order to obtain a family residence permit, it is important to have a legal place of residence. It is not necessary to buy real estate; a husband's/wife's home or long-term rental are suitable. If the marriage is found to be fictitious, you will be deported and banned from entering Turkey for the next 5 years.
- Buying a property. Provided that the cost of the housing you purchased is 250 thousand dollars or more, citizenship can be obtained even without a residence permit. You shouldn’t hope to sign a fictitious home purchase agreement to obtain citizenship: the state strictly suppresses such attempts.
- Work residence permit You will need a foreign passport, a work visa and an invitation from the employer. Obtaining such a residence permit is also possible on the condition that you will conduct business in the territory of this state.
What should you not forget when planning to apply for a residence permit in Turkey?
- If children are traveling with you to Turkey, look for kindergartens and schools that teach in Russian.
- Avoid bogus methods and other speculations, the consequences can be severe. Don’t forget that the child needs his own residence permit.
