8 Unmissable Places in Alanya and Surroundings, Türkiye

Alanya (Alanya) is an elegant resort nestled against the Bay of Antalya by the dark slopes of the Taurus Mountains. The landscape is defined by a 250 meter high promontory jutting into the Mediterranean Sea and fortified since time immemorial. In Alanya, you can spend time relaxing on the charming beaches and exploring the historical and natural attractions of the town and its surroundings. Here are some key places that travelers should see:

Alanya Fortress

This 13th century castle will take many hours to explore. The starting point can be the citadel on the southwest side, from where guests will enter the Byzantine Church of St. George, converted into a mosque. On the northern side of the cape is the Seljuk Ehmedek fortress, built on the ruins of the Hellenistic period.

Kyzyl Kule

The symbol of Alanya is the Seljuk defensive tower of the 13th century, which got its name (Red Tower) because of the red brick from which the upper floor and parapet of the building are made. The tower has an octagonal shape and rises to a height of 33 meters. This rare example of medieval defensive architecture was built to protect Alanya's harbor and shipyard and has greeted people arriving in the city for many centuries.

Cleopatra Beach

At the western foot of the cape, Alanya's main beach begins - a long, gentle arc of coarse sand. Cleopatra Beach is wide, tapering only slightly to the north. It offers panoramic views of the fortress and mountains. There is a club with sun loungers along the beach, and a picturesque promenade runs between the sand and Ataturk Boulevard.

Funicular

On the eastern side of the beach there is the lower station of the cable car, which will take you to the fortress. The funicular in Alanya rises 250 meters along a 900-meter line. Guests can enjoy excellent views, including sunset views.

Sapadere Canyon

It's impossible not to admire the Taurus Range, and to explore this exhilarating landscape, the best place to visit is Sapadere Canyon, about 40 km northeast of Alanya. In the mountains, the temperature is several degrees lower and there is no humidity.

Alanya harbor

This is a curious place to spend an evening - there is a promenade along the water, surrounded by gardens with palm trees, lawns and topiaries. The harbor has many places to enjoy the views and cafes where you can try Turkish coffee.

Alanya Archaeological Museum

In ancient times, there was a group of cities in the region that are now historical monuments. Many finds can be seen in the archaeological museum, for example, Alanya is famous for a bronze statue of Hercules dating back to the 2nd century AD, untouched amphorae, coins and even a letter from the Roman emperor.

Dim Tea

This river flows from the eastern side of Alanya - it is cool, and there is a lot of vegetation on its banks. This is a fascinating place for a day trip that will allow you to get acquainted with the nature of the region.
