Why are there panels with barrels on the roofs of all houses in Turkey?

Mysterious eastern peoples, Islamic traditions, unusual way of life, ancient pyramids attract tourists from around the world. Türkiye is an interesting country of Muslim customs that welcomes tourists with open arms. After returning from a trip, people talk about panels on the roofs of all houses in Turkey. What are they?

The first impression from the structures we saw was solar panels. But no! Use panels to heat water. The scorching sun is free electricity that can heat cubes of liquid. It is surprising that in Turkey, in large tourist cities, there is no central hot water supply system. Less often, there is no gas supply, replaced by propane from gas cylinders.

Reasons for using water heaters on rooftops in Turkey:

  • weather conditions;
  • economic benefit;
  • saving the family budget.

The hot climate and scorching sun rays in summer can heat the water to 60-70 degrees Celsius. Heating water to the same state using electricity will entail huge bills for the energy used. Thrifty Turks are not ready to receive bills with inflated figures for payment. To be on the safe side, all houses have electric heating devices that are used in winter, when the celestial body does not produce enough natural thermal energy. It’s a pity, but due to the climate in Russia, such profitable systems are completely useless.

Autonomous devices for water heating consist of the following parts:

  • a black metal plate - a solar battery capable of absorbing rays;
  • a storage or flow tank connected to a metal plate - an electrically driven boiler attached to a support frame placed on the roof;
  • technical devices for water supply - wires, hoses, valves, boards, sensors, etc.

The matte black color of the metal allows you to quickly make the water hot. The average service life of systems distributed over the roofs of buildings is two decades. Collectors are located to store hot water at the highest points, on houses, so that it can flow by gravity down to the taps.

House owners independently select and install heating structures of the required volume. Placing thermal panels is economically beneficial for owners and local authorities. After all, the absence of a central hot water supply eliminates the need for pipe repairs, the possibility of breakthroughs, and liquid leakage.
