Sports events in Turkey

Below are some sporting events that took place in Turkey. Also, you can learn about sports that are becoming more popular every day among foreigners visiting Turkey, and Antalya in particular.

World Rally Championship WRC

One of the most prestigious events in world motorsport. This is the annual World Rally Championship held in Kemer/Antalya. As the city hosts the WRC, residents have the perfect opportunity to witness this truly spectacular spectacle. The rally takes place on a mountain gravel road course in the southwest of the country. The length is 1300 km, with a total of 18 sections. The rally headquarters is located in Kemer, about 40 km from Antalya. During races on difficult roads, emergency situations can occur due to the relatively high average speed of the distance. The weather at this time is usually changeable, which can greatly affect the condition of the roads and, accordingly, the grip on the highway. More often than not, the air temperature is high, so racers have to cope with the heat, and mechanics have to adapt the cars to difficult roads and provide an adequate engine cooling system.

Rafting

Rafting is rafting down mountain rivers in canoes, inflatable boats and rafts.

This is a rare opportunity to discover the beauty of wild nature, test your strength, and fight the elements. This is quite a risky activity, but in Turkey you do it in complete safety. In Side you will have a great opportunity to see a unique panorama of the canyons. Transfer from the hotel to the rafting site is accompanied by a guide and lasts about an hour. Guests are provided with complete tour information. Professional instructors talk about the features of mountain river rafting and provide the necessary equipment. The boats accommodate 4 - 6 - 8 or 12 people, and an experienced guide always comes to the rescue during the exciting rafting. The flows of the Manavgat River are not at all dangerous. The icy water comes from the majestic Taurus Mountains and the river is 12 km long. There are also several places with rafting facilities in the Antalya area. This is the Köprülü Canyon, formed from the Taurus, where the Köprüçay River flows into the Mediterranean Sea at Serik / Antalya. There is also the Alara River with a flow of 25 km/h to the entrance to the village of Gündu and which ends at Alarahan - an ancient castle dating back to the Seljuk times. Throughout the journey, at different parts of the route you can eat, take pictures, swim, take part in entertaining games and admire the fabulous nature of the Taurus Mountains.

Jeep safari

This is a 1-day tour with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 12 jeeps and is a challenging, obstacle-filled drive through the Taurus Mountains countryside. One important feature of this tour is that only after reaching adulthood and having a driver’s license can you become a participant in this trip and drive a jeep yourself. Only after lunch or late in the evening do the jeeps return and take tourists to their hotels.

Paintball

Over the past few years, Paintball has become increasingly popular in Turkey, not only among visitors and tourists, but also among local residents. Paintball is a game of real pursuit, attack and disguise. The exciting feeling of adventure will not leave you throughout the entire game. Typically, players are divided into 2 teams, each of which has its own captain, and several different scenarios are offered, which makes the game even more interesting. This game is considered the safest and most spectacular of all sports.

Horseback riding

The horse has always had an important place in human life and history, but until recently it did not attract much attention as a tourist attraction in Turkey. The reason may be the result of the Turkish people's misconception of the very concept of horseback riding. It has long been believed that this sport is intended for rich people and incurs large material costs, just like in football, golf, etc. Many people dream of riding horses, and today in Turkey you have such an opportunity.

Experienced instructors and beautiful, calm horses are at your service. You can ride on the ranch; various routes through the mountains are possible for 1.5 hours or more. The Antalya region is wonderfully suitable for this very ancient but entertaining sport. Kemer, Belek, Side and Alanya are also great for horseback riding. And for amateurs, professionals and even very young ones who are already starting to learn horse riding, you can choose a trained horse. On the beach, in the forest or even in the mountains - enjoy your trip!

Motorcycle tour

Just imagine the unforgettable sensations you will experience during a motorcycle tour - speed, road, wind and freedom. In Turkey, very short trips and even entire vacations on motorcycles are possible. You have a great opportunity to learn, try your hand at competitions, and even ride throughout the country, where you can see cultural and architectural sights, winding roads, snow-capped Taurus peaks, forests and cascading rivers. Devote just a few hours to this and you will not only not regret it, but also enjoy this unforgettable feeling of freedom and speed.

skiing

Turkey's high snow-capped mountains have made the country an important center for winter tourism and skiing. Winter sports resorts in Turkey are generally located in forested mountains of medium height. Every year thousands of tourists from all over the world come here to the ski slopes and slopes to once again plunge into a world full of adventure.

There are more and more ski resorts, they are expanding in response to increasing demand. Uludag, near the city of Bursa in northwestern Turkey, is the oldest ski resort and snow cover lasts 178 days a year, from December to May. The longest descent on Uludag is 2 km long. Numerous cafes, bars and discos are open 24 hours a day during the ski season in Uludag, and lively, cheerful parties - gatherings of skiers, called apres-ski, also add to the attractiveness. Five-star hotel resorts also provide additional sports facilities such as swimming pools, ice skating rinks and gymnasiums. Antalya is known for its mild winters and very long swimming season. But just a few hours' drive from the city in the mountains lies the small ski resort Saklikent. The season here is quite short, usually from January to March, and it is advisable to visit on non-working days when it is not very crowded. Saklikent is located 50 km west of Antalya, in the Beydag mountain range at an altitude of 2550 km. Due to its close proximity to Antalya, it is one of the few places in the world where people can ski in the morning, then swim in the sea in the afternoon. The ski tracks are at an altitude of 2000-2400 m, the snow depth is between 0.5-1m. The ski center has a boarding house for 14 people, a restaurant for 80 people, a cafeteria and an outdoor cafe.

In addition to the ski slopes, there are 2 lifts with a capacity of 240 people/hour and 340 people/hour, as well as two light and medium-heavy slopes.

Hiking

The vast, almost deserted mountainous areas along the Mediterranean coast are exactly what hikers crave. Particularly good for this are the secluded mountain plateaus around Kozak (north of Bergama), the forests in the vicinity of Bodrum and Marmaris, as well as Yayla above Alanya. In the Lycian part of the Taurus mountain range you can find almost unexplored ancient ruins. And the meadows with large fields, flora, a large amount of water and natural beauty of these places will simply amaze your imagination. Tekir and Burujek meadows in the Toros (Taurus) mountains are very popular among mountain tourism lovers. The Taurus trek in the Antalya region involves trekking along a mountain range in the southern Anatolian plateau, from which the Euphrates continues on into Syria. These mountains have a variety of peaks, many above 10,000 feet, with Demirkazik being its highest point.

Mountaineering

One look at the topographic map of Turkey is enough to understand that this is a country of mountains. Rising on four sides, mountains surround the Anatolia peninsula. Since it is part of the Alpine-Himalayan mountain range, Turkey has mountainous areas with different geological formations. The northern Anatolian region is bordered by the Mediterranean coast. Turkey's magnificent mountains and forests are mostly wild and exist as wonderful nature reserves.

It is advisable to inform the Turkish regional Mountaineering Club about any ascents to such high mountains as Agri (Ararat 5137 m) in the east and about the time and date of the ascent so that the club has time to inform the local authorities. Some of the important peaks for climbing include Mt. Tavru in Antalya, Teke, Mt Bakirdaa, Mt Tahtali and Kizlar Sivrisi (3069m). These mountains make up the western part of the Taurus, located in the Antalya region. They are located between north and south, parallel to the Mediterranean coast. Climbing and hiking in Turkey is possible all year round, but the best time is considered to be between April and June. Parachuting is also possible in these places, provided the wind is caught correctly.

Paragliding

Turkey's mountainous landscape combined with sunny and clear skies makes it one of the best paragliding destinations in the world. The best time for this exciting sport is between April and November. For example, the Dead Sea and Fethiye look great from a bird's eye view. This sport is also very popular in Kas. In this ancient city, the Paragladians make their jumps from Mount Aksaz. Before the jump, you will be briefed on safety precautions and the specifics of the flight itself.

No matter what region you jump in, there will always be a professional instructor next to you who will accompany you during the entire excursion and jump. Professionals in their field, high-quality equipment and equipment will ensure safe and unforgettable jumps. Antalya is also one of the regions where paragliding is common and very popular.

Study of birds in natural conditions (Ornithology)

The study or observation of birds with the naked eye or with binoculars is called Ornithology. Throughout the world, ornithology primarily pursues social and restoration goals. Some regions of Izmir and Çeşmealtı were declared natural heritage in 1985, so there are no particular bird watching problems for ornithologists here. The north and south of Turkey are under complete control. Every year, millions of birds nest here and their migration route goes in this direction. The best month for nesting is May. Antalya and Belek are home to more than 100 species of birds such as Tito Alba, Apus Apus, Atena Noctua and many others. In Antalya and Belek you have a great opportunity not only to spend a holiday or vacation, but also to satisfy your curiosity; you can watch birds almost all year round.
