How to behave in Turkey, not to be misunderstood

How to behave in Turkey, not to be misunderstood

When we come on holiday to the sea, I want to relax, immerse myself in the resort atmosphere and not think about anything. But sometimes, following our desires, we can be misunderstood or even insult the locals by our behavior. What is the matter? Let's see - which is unacceptable on holiday in Turkey.

To begin with, our beloved Solar Republic is a country, though secular, but Muslim. Therefore, there is also a certain dress code.

In swimsuits do not go!

Turkey has long been accustomed to a huge influx of tourists every year. And we all come to Antalya, Alanya, Kemer or other cities to enjoy a holiday by the sea.

This is where many people forget that beachwear is relevant exclusively on the beach. Turkey is not Miami or Jamaica, where the more frank the outfit, the better.

Alanya is a city where people live, work, raise children. And part of the population is believers visiting the mosque.

Just imagine how unpleasant it is to watch covered women of a foreigner in shorts somewhere in the Migros store or on the market. Why they should be embarrassed and embarrassed while in their own country.

By the way, this applies to girls in bikinis. Is it nice when you walk down the street and you are escorted with a hungry look. And most often obsessive shop sellers stick to those who are not dressed in the most modest way.

However, half-dressed tourists in the center of the city cause disapproval not only among Turkish residents, but also among us Russian-speaking Alanyans. After all, we, too, are forced to observe a similar picture when leaving work, taking the children out of the kindergarten.

You must admit that you, too, were not pleased if men in swimming trunks and girls in bikinis were walking in the center of your city.

Drink alcohol in a hotel or in special places.

Turkey is a Muslim country. And as you know, Muslim believers do not drink alcohol. Therefore, walking around the city with a bottle of beer (or something stronger) in the hands - at least - moveton.

By the way, drinking alcohol in public places in Turkey is prohibited by law. However, the same rules apply in Europe, and this does not even surprise us. In the summer season, our compatriots in the center of Alanya with a bottle of intoxicating is not a rare phenomenon.

But such walks can end not only by hearing a disapproving opinion, but also by fines.

So it is better to drink beverages with a degree either on site, or in one of the many bars, especially since alcohol is not much more expensive in a cafe than in supermarkets and small shops.

Without gingerbread do not flirt ...

Another mistake of our compatriots on holiday in Turkey is too friendly behavior.

No, no one says that you need to put on a “poker face” and not smile at anyone. But girls, if they appeal to some male residents with some questions, should show as little emotion as possible, because they can be perceived as flirting, which in itself will not lead to anything good.

On the part of men, excessive “familiarity” also looks ugly. In response, you can smile into your eyes, but when you leave, shake your head disapprovingly. So friendly pats on the shoulder should be left for relatives or close friends.

Do not cry, you are not in the woods

If you have ever traveled in public transport in Turkey, you probably noticed that the locals are trying to talk in a muffled tone, in buses and dolmushes (as they call in Turkey minibuses), it is not customary to shout and gesticulate expressively. And this is despite the fact that the Turks themselves are very emotional.

If we see a noisy company - this is probably foreigners.

Why should behave more modest.

First, out of respect. In buses and dolmushes, people also travel to and from work. So, for sure they can feel unwell and dream of a moment of calm and rest.

Secondly, a noisy company can be the reason that someone will pass their stop or hotel.

The fact is that in resort cities, drivers of buses and dolmushes usually loudly shout out the name of the most popular stops or hotels, so that tourists who are not guided by the terrain do not go in the wrong direction.

Accordingly, at some point the driver may simply not shout down to the merry company, and the passengers will go on driving along the coast.

Agree, the rules are simple, but observing them, we will at least not disturb the peace of local residents in Turkey, but we will be treated accordingly with respect. Because a good attitude always causes a desire to reciprocate.
