Furnished or unfurnished in Alanya, Turkey: which apartment will feel like home?
A guide from Maxhome Invest · Alanya, Turkey
Arriving at your own place by the sea with a single suitcase sounds wonderfully simple. The bed is made, the kitchen has its appliances and there is a chair on the balcony for your first coffee. A furnished apartment can spare you weeks of shopping after the purchase. Yet a beautiful interior can also distract from the questions that matter more: Is there room to work? Can you sleep comfortably? Will your belongings fit?
An empty apartment offers a different pleasure. You can choose the bed, the lighting and the shape of the kitchen around your own routine. That freedom takes time and money to organise. The better choice depends less on a fashionable label than on how soon you plan to use the property and what kind of life you want there.
When buying furnished makes life easier
If you are moving soon or will visit Alanya for short stays, a ready home is appealing. You can unpack, cook dinner and settle in before you have learned the names of local furniture shops. This is especially useful when your time in Turkey is limited.
For a concrete example, look at this furnished one-bedroom apartment in Demirtaş for €75,000. The listing describes 55 m² on the fifth floor of a 2025 building, about 900 metres from the sea. It gives you a starting point for comparing ready-to-use homes. The furniture is part of the attraction, but the location, light and layout still deserve most of your attention.
There is a practical question behind every attractive photograph: Which items stay with the apartment? Ask for an inventory of furniture and appliances with photographs. A sofa, curtains or light fittings may make a room look complete in the advert without necessarily being included in the sale. An agreed list makes the handover much simpler.
During a viewing, try the apartment as if you were already living there. Open the wardrobes, sit at the dining table, check the space around the bed and switch on the air conditioners. Older appliances can add to the cost of a supposedly ready home. Even a well-equipped apartment may need a mattress you like, blackout curtains, kitchenware or a desk before it really works for you.
The freedom of an unfurnished apartment
If this will be your home for years, choosing the interior yourself can be worth the wait. You might need generous storage, a quiet workspace or a living room that can host family. These are easier to plan before the rooms fill with someone else's furniture.
“Unfurnished” does not always mean an unfinished shell. The kitchen units, bathroom fittings, lighting or air conditioners may already be there. Find out precisely what the apartment includes before you budget for the rest.
Partly furnished homes sit between the two choices. This one-bedroom apartment in Avsallar for €68,000 is listed with some furniture and appliances. At 55 m², in a 2023 building about 1.5 kilometres from the sea, it offers a useful example of a home where you can keep the essentials and choose the remaining pieces yourself.
Compare the price of moving in, not just the asking price
Two apartments with the same asking price may lead to very different first months. For an empty home, add furniture, appliances, delivery, assembly and any installation work. If you need somewhere to stay while it is being prepared, that belongs in the budget too. A furnished home may need fewer purchases, but it can still need repairs or replacements.
It helps to make two separate sums: the cost of buying property in Turkey, including the transaction, and the cost of making this particular apartment comfortable. There is no honest universal furnishing bill for every one-bedroom home. A basic set of furniture and a carefully planned family home are different projects. A useful estimate names the actual items, delivery and work.
Buying from abroad adds one more consideration. Someone needs to measure rooms, receive deliveries and check that a wardrobe door opens properly once everything is assembled. If you expect to leave Turkey after signing, plan who will handle these details. Our guide to buying an apartment in Turkey remotely explains how to approach the wider purchase before travelling.
Choose the apartment before the sofa
Furniture can be changed. The building's position, the floor, the amount of daylight and the floor plan are much harder to change. Start with the home that suits your daily life, then decide whether its existing interior helps you or merely looks good in photographs.
For a holiday base, a furnished apartment can give you precious time back. For a permanent move, fitting out an empty home may bring years of comfort. Both can be good decisions when you know what the first months will involve.
