Import and export of currency and goods to Turkey

For many years now, Turkey has been one of the popular tourist destinations among Russians. When going through customs control, you must at least know Russian legislation, as well as customs regulations in Turkey. There are often situations when at a Turkish checkpoint a tourist is allowed to export a certain product, but domestic customs prohibits its import. This applies to tobacco, alcohol and other goods. Is it allowed to export currency from Turkey, what kind can be taken and in what quantity?

Export of goods from Turkey

The traveler must understand how much goods he can take out of the country in order to avoid paying duties. The most popular purchases in Turkey are:

  • hookahs;
  • coffee;
  • tobacco;
  • alcohol;
  • souvenirs;
  • perfumes and cosmetics from Duty free.

Import and export of currency

What is the currency in Turkey? The national currency of the country is the lira. Exchange rate to ruble: 1 Turkish lira = 1.08 rubles. It is often depreciated and is considered not the most reliable. Foreign currency can be brought into the country without restrictions. You can pay here in dollars and euros. But it is still more profitable to buy for Turkish lira.

But with export it is a little more complicated. The amount of Turkish lira that a tourist has the right to take out should not exceed $1,000 in equivalent. For dollars, this amount is equal to $10,000.

For citizens of the Russian Federation there is the following procedure:

  1. If the amount exported from Turkey is more than $10,000 in equivalent, the tourist must present to the customs authorities a permit from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
  2. Customs authorities will need to present authorization documents if the dollar amount being transported ranges from $1,500 to $5,000. These can be receipts or checks for withdrawing currency from a bank current account or purchasing it from a bank.
  3. The transported amount of up to $1,500 does not require any confirmation and no permits.

Bank receipts and certificates will be useful when declaring foreign currency, so it is better to take such documents with you. They will need to be handed over to the authorities that carry out customs clearance.

Citizens of the Russian Federation can import non-cash currency (traveler's check, plastic card) without restrictions. It is recommended to withdraw funds from the card in advance, even before you need to travel while staying in the Russian Federation, since currency conversion will take place in Turkey, which will require you to pay additional transaction fees. Secondly, problems can arise with a bank card at the most inopportune moment.
