District Alanyi Mahmutlar
Alanya Mahmutlar District
Mahmutlar is one of the most economical resorts on the Antalya coast, located 12 km from Alanya. Due to the maximum distance from the airport (compared to other resorts on the Mediterranean coast, of course), local hotels offer the lowest prices, even in high season. Like neighboring resorts, Mahmutlar consists of many buildings built along a noisy highway and two or three cozy parallel streets. And yet the surrounding landscapes cannot but be called picturesque: their distinctive feature is the emerald color of the water and excellent views of the mountains covered with pine forests.
Near Mahmutlar there are the remains of the ancient cities of Leartes, Naula and Syedra. Each of them is associated with the emergence and development of Mahmutlar. Mahmutlar, which in the 7th century BC was the port area of the ancient city, originates from Leartes. In Syedra, the remains of an ancient aqueduct that supplied the city with water have been preserved. Naula was a cultural center with its own amphitheater, observatory, theaters and temples. This is evidenced by the relics kept in the Alanya Archaeological Museum.

How to get there
Mahmutlar does not have its own airport. This resort town is quite remote from other large cities.
There are few direct flights from Moscow and charters are offered only at the height of the tourist season. The rest of the time you will have to select connecting routes. If there is no suitable flight, you can take domestic flights from Istanbul or Ankara 5 times a day. The easiest way to get from the airport is to take a taxi or order a transfer to the hotel in advance. You can use minibuses or buses, but this is not very convenient, since you will have to make 2 transfers.
Climate and weather
Mahmutlar has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and moderate winters.
The best time for a holiday is from June to October, when the water in the sea warms up to +23…+27. In April-May during the day +22…+24, but the sea is +19. It’s best to come here in September – it’s not so hot anymore (+26), but the water is still warm. In summer, the thermometer can rise to +30.
In winter you can’t swim in the sea, although the daytime air temperature is pleasant +14…+16, but at night it rarely drops below +7.

Beaches
The beaches in Mahmutlar are not municipal, like in Alanya. Here, each hotel has its own beach, free in most cases, I think. Although there are probably public beaches too.
The beaches are very clean, you won’t find any trash or bottles here like on our shores. This is very carefully monitored and cleaned. An embankment runs along the coast, but its beautiful view is overshadowed by a very noisy highway.
The entrance to the sea here is complicated by the presence of one geological feature - along the entire coast of Mahmutlar, the entrance to the sea is made of stone slabs, something like a plumb cliff, only going into the sea.
Attractions
Many attractions and entertainment are located around Mahmutlar, Alanya and other areas. To take part in a jeep safari, sail on a yacht, relax on a mountain river, visit pirate caves, or go diving, you need to go to the nearest excursion bureau. There are a lot of them, and they will provide services for every taste. You can organize a vacation or excursion for one day or several days, with a short trip or far away. These could be trips of several days to Cappadocia, Pammukale or Mira Kekova.
But the most famous natural attraction of Mahmutlar is the Dimchay River, along the banks of which there are many caves with stalactites and stalagmites. In addition, there is an abundance of trout, which is prepared right there in numerous restaurants near the water.
A park with flowers, fountains and benches is perfect for relaxation. On Barbaros Avenue, homemade souvenirs from local craftsmen are being sold with all their might. You can buy pumpkin crafts, jewelry, clay plates, and knitted items from them.
Shopping and shops
Twice a week a bazaar is held in Mahmutlar where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables, clothes, shoes and souvenirs. Locals claim that in the evening food prices are almost halved and sellers become much more amenable to bargaining. In addition, you can look into the large shopping centers located on the road to Alanya - Alanyum, the familiar Metro and Kipa. You can pay there with a bank card, Turkish lira, EUR and dollars, but the exchange rate for the last two currencies is not the most favorable.
Cuisine and restaurants
The main dishes are those prepared at the hotel. There are separate cafes and street stalls with fast food, but they are popular only during the tourist season. You can try Turkish cuisine in any establishment. Sights and excursions. In the center of the city there is a nice small park where local artists hold vernissages during the tourist season, selling handmade crafts, souvenirs as gifts, and local fruits and vegetables.
Secluded places
In addition to beaches for lazy relaxation and adjacent well-kept parks with cute fountains, in Mahmutlar you can find many attractive and mysterious places for walks. Entire groves of banana and orange trees invite you into their shade, and you can enjoy the fruits right on the spot. At every step there are ancient churches or mosques, the remains of settlements destroyed centuries ago. Periodically, during the construction of new buildings, if not a treasure, then a sarcophagus or other artifacts of antiquity are discovered. Separately, it is worth mentioning the ancient cities of Syedra and Laertes in the vicinity of Mahmutlar, where there are perfectly preserved mosques and a Caravanserai.
Travel to the mountains
Behind Mahmutlar is a mountain range called the Taurus. A huge mountain range originates here and extends all the way to Georgia. The last mountain peak in eastern Turkey is called Ararat.
The highest height of the mountain range is 2339 m. This peak is named Karacali. In winter there is the opportunity to ski and sled. You can take a portable barbecue, some food and drinks with you and organize a real Turkish picnic in the snow. In the hot summer, the mountains are the place where you can relax and cool down. (Live like the locals live)
Resort Features
The main feature is that many Russians permanently live in Mahmutlar. Therefore, Russian speech is heard everywhere here. For those who want to travel to Turkey, but do not know English, this city is perfect because you can always find fellow citizens who will help you communicate with the locals.
But despite the fact that the resort has several five-star hotels and has all the conditions for a comfortable stay for tourists, it is not always possible to find some things here; for this you have to go to the nearest city of Alanya.
