What is grown in Alanya

Fruit Paradise - Alania
What associations do you have when you hear the word "paradise"? Of course, the sun, the sea, white sand and ... shady fruit trees, the fruits of which are being asked for on the table. And all this is in Alanya - which can be safely called not just a great place to relax, but also a real fruit paradise!
The Antalya coast today is rightly called the "heart" of the agricultural industry in Turkey. Indeed, thanks to the warm climate, the bright sun and clean air, dozens of varieties of fruits and vegetables grow here. Moreover, in recent years, tropical fruits have also been cultivated in Alanya.

Summer is a time of vitamin abundance
Of course, the most fruitful time of the year is summer. It is from May to September that market stalls literally burst with the abundance and variety of fruits and vegetables. And everything that can be bought in Alanya or Antalya in bazaars and markets is grown here, and not brought from abroad. So, it gets on the shelves fresh, without processing any chemicals.
In May, the season of strawberries and cherries starts. More precisely, they start selling sweet berries earlier, but in March and April they are not as tasty as in summer. But in May, just begins expanse.
And they sell it all for mere pennies, because they grow it right here on the coast. And if the first strawberry and sweet cherry is estimated at 10-15 lire, then during the season the price drops to 3-5 lire per kilogram, depending on the variety of berries.
The beginning of summer is the time of the medlar. In Turkey, this fruit is called yeni dünya (yeni dünya). Medlar trees grow in Alanya almost at every step. After all, the climate for them is perfect. Therefore, this fruit is grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, which means it retains all the benefits and vitamins necessary for health.
Alanya's “business card” is bananas. Because of their small size, they are sometimes called royal, and to taste they are much sweeter than imported large fruits, which are usually removed even green and left to ripen on the road.
Banana plantations are located in Alanya just above sea level, they can be seen already at the entrance to the city, if you look to the mountains.
Apricots, peaches and nectarines ripen in Alanya in June and July. On the shelves appear juicy plums.
At the same time on the plantations begin to collect watermelons and melons. If we are accustomed to eating these fruits in our homeland at the end of summer, then in Turkey watermelons and melons ripen much earlier, and this is due to the fact that there is a hot summer and a warm winter.
Caught in Alanya and outlandish dragon fruit - or pitahaya. Previously, it could be found in hot tropical countries, for example, in Thailand or Vietnam. But Turkish farmers, too, did not lose time in vain and learned how to grow pitahaya on the Alanya coast.
A few years ago, a project for the cultivation of kiwi was launched in Alanya. And again, Turkish farmers were very successful. Tropical berry, which today is sold in Alanya and Antalya in the markets and shops, comes to the shelves from local plantations.

Autumn - time to stock up on vitamins?
By the end of summer, figs, grapes and persimmon ripen on the Antalya coast. And all this is also the merit of Turkish farmers.
Local "autumn" fruits are very sweet. A well ripened persimmon does not "knit" at all. Soft and juicy figs can be eaten in pounds without stopping. Of course, it may seem that it is somewhat expensive - 8-10 liras per kilogram. But, believe me, the Alanya fig is worth it.
A little later, grenades appear on the markets. You may have seen on the road from Alanya to Antalya large gardens where trees with red flowers grow. So, this is a grenade. By the fall, they ripen and become incredibly sweet and large. And this delicacy is quite inexpensive.
Autumn and winter on the Antalya coast is the time of citrus fruits, when mandarins and oranges are poured with juice. By the way, the harvest of the latter is harvested 2-3 times a year.
Oranges and tangerines in the Alanya markets in winter cost 2-3 lira per kilogram. Perhaps you paid attention to the fact that, at first glance, the Antalya citrus fruits do not look very presentable. And all because of their cultivation do not use harmful chemicals, and the peel to shine not rubbed with wax. But what oranges and tangerines grown on the Mediterranean coast, sweet! For ears not ottyanesh.
Apples and pears also grow on the Antalya coast. But against the background of fruit abundance, these familiar delicacies are somehow lost. And in vain, because pears are simply delicious to taste.
The storehouse of vitamins, healthy trace elements and fats - avocados are also grown in Alanya. This fruit (yes, avocado refers specifically to fruit, although it is used for making salads) is grown in Turkey for no more than 15 years, but during this time avocado has become so popular that you can hardly find a hostess in Alanya who would not know how cook a variety of snacks from it.
Not to mention another delicious fruit - quince. From which the Turks either prepare desserts or add it to meat dishes.

Do you like vegetables? Then you are in Alanya.
In Alanya, not only fruit, but also vegetable abundance, because tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and eggplants, red and green peppers are grown here.
Harvested cabbage and pumpkins in Alanya. And here they grow an amazing vegetable - okra. From her Turks cook delicious dishes. And reminds to taste okra asparagus and a little eggplant.
Olives grow on the Antalya coast, which, by the way, can also be found in the markets, as well as the highest quality olive oil.
One of the unique products that can be found in Alanya is the carob tree. From its fruits make a useful sugar substitute, which is called carob.
In fact, it is easier to list what is not in Alanya and Antalya, since almost everything is grown here. And what does not grow on the Mediterranean coast, is brought from the neighboring provinces of Turkey, such as artichokes, which in European countries are considered a delicacy, and in Turkey they are sold for only 1-2 lira apiece.
So it is safe to say that Alanya is a paradise for those who love healthy and healthy food, rich in vitamins and microelements.
