Moving to Turkey 2022: how much money will you need?
One of the main issues that must be resolved before moving is budget planning, not only monthly, but also initial, designed to cover current expenses: tickets, rental housing, and other immediate expenses. How much money and what will you have to spend on if you are planning to move to Turkey?
Housing expenses when moving to Turkey
The ideal option would be to purchase your own home, but since there is not always money for such a purchase, we will consider renting in detail. If we talk about a family of 3 people, then a 2+1 housing would be a worthy solution (three-room, but in Turkey it is called 2+1). The minimum cost of such housing in 2022, furnished, in a modern area near the center for 1 year is from 2,500 liras per month. Please note that we are based on minimum amounts and they should serve as a rough guide only.
If saving is a higher priority than spacious housing, then you should pay attention to the 1+1 options; costs will be reduced to an average of 1,700 liras.
In any case, the amount must immediately be multiplied by 3: housing fees, deposit and realtor services. The first amount is monthly, the second and third are one-time payments. Here we also add aidat - a monthly fee for using the territory of a residential complex, approximately 200 lire.
We apply for a residence permit in Turkey
The cost of obtaining a residence permit for 3 people for 12 months will be approximately 2,500 liras for Russian citizens.
Educational institution for a child
A visit to a state kindergarten for one child will cost about 400 liras, a private one - 1,500 monthly. When attending a private school, be prepared to incur additional costs every month, which will average 3,000 liras. If the school is located at a significant distance from home, then the child’s travel to the educational institution will cost approximately 300 liras per month.
Utility costs
In addition to the aidat, which was already discussed above, you need to pay for utilities separately. In most cases, these costs are borne by the tenant. We bring to your attention a selection of utility tariffs:
- Using a single-tariff meter, you will have to pay 0.7394 lira per 1 kilowatt for electricity. There are also multi-tariff meters, the following tariffs are set for them: from 6 am to 5 pm - 0.5445 liras, from 17 to 22 pm - 0.7997 liras, and from 10 pm to 6 am - 0.3404 liras. Please note: the amount of energy spent can vary significantly depending on how your home is heated.
- 1 cubic meter of gas will cost 2.14 liras (including tax).
- The cost of water per 1 cubic meter will change when certain limits are reached. Up to 13 cubic meters within a month - 6.41 liras. From 14 to 20 cubes - 6.92 liras, from 21 cubes - 14.27 liras.
Spending on mobile communications
Modern people cannot imagine life without mobile communications, and therefore this expense item must be taken into account. Main operators 3:
- Turkcell.
- Turk Telekom.
- Vodafone.
An interesting local feature of call tariffs is that there is no difference if you compare the cost of calls to numbers in your region/operator and calls to numbers in other networks/regions of the country.
The approximate cost of a standard service package will be 27 liras per month for one person for the first month. Starting from the second - from 35 liras. Regardless of the tariff chosen, you must pay a monthly tax of approximately 3 liras.
Cost of food
It is difficult to predict specific amounts in this case, since the preferences and needs of each person differ significantly. We present the current cost of basic products to make it easier to plan the corresponding part of the budget (prices are given in Turkish lira):
- 500 grams of bread - 5.
- A liter of milk - 7.90.
- A liter of kefir - 12.50.
- 30 chicken eggs - 35.
- A kilogram of cheese - 60.
- A kilogram of butter - 70.
- A kilogram of buckwheat is 28.
- Fruits and vegetables - from 1.50 (onions) to 15 (cucumbers) per kilogram.
- Meat: beef - 65 per kilogram, chicken 22.
Please note that every city and even every district of large cities has its own market days, on the advent of which any of the listed products can be bought cheaper. At the same time, the reduced cost will not affect the quality in any way.
Medical insurance
Another budget item that you definitely can’t do without spending. Let's start with the fact that a residence permit without a policy will simply not be provided. As a rule, the policy is purchased for a period of 12 months, which allows you to consider this expense not as a monthly, but as an annual one. The minimum cost of the policy for a year will be 800 liras. If necessary, you can purchase insurance in installments; this practice is not uncommon.
The final cost of insurance is made up of the following factors:
- Age.
- Paula.
- Builds.
- Full list of selected services.
Total spending
Having assessed individual expense items, let's try to summarize. The minimum amount on which a family of three can live in Turkey for 1 month is approximately 3,700 liras. Please note: this is just a guide to understand the budget required to live in this country. It is difficult to be more specific, because the needs and usual items of expenditure for each family, as well as the understanding of a comfortable life, are quite individual.
At the same time, based on the information provided, you can easily create your own estimate for monthly living in Turkey in order to understand how much money you need monthly in your individual case.
